Our Services

The Journey Starts Here

Babies typically start to sprout their first teeth between six and nine months. The two lower front teeth are usually the first to appear, followed by the two upper teeth.

Our proactive approach to oral health helps you and your child build the habits needed to reduce the risk of tooth decay, oral infections, and myofunctional irregularities.

Dental Cleanings

Pearly Whites

Your dental health is essential to us, which is why we offer professional teeth cleanings to halt the formation or progression of periodontal disease and gingivitis.

At your child's appointment, they will get to choose a fun toothpaste flavor, like cookie dough or bubble gum, while watching a kid-friendly movie! Their teeth will be polished and scaled to remove any plaque and tartar, making for a sparkling smile.

Routine exams

Just a quick look, twice a year.

At Grand River Pediatric Dentistry, we focus on preventative care to ensure optimum oral health for your child. We follow the recommendations of leading dental organizations and recommend that your child have their first dental visit within six months of their first tooth erupting or by their first birthday. Our Jenison, MI, dental team will then recommend a recall schedule based on your child's risk for disease. Regular exams and professional cleanings can help keep your child's mouth healthy and sparkling clean.

Fluoride Treatments

Building Stronger Teeth

Get ahead of tooth decay with fluoride treatments at Grand River Pediatric Dentistry. We offer fluoride treatments to prevent tooth decay for patients of all ages. Topical fluoride is recommended for infants and children as early as six months (when the first teeth appear) and beyond based on the risk for cavities. This is especially important as new baby and adult teeth develop and erupt.

Fluoride is applied to the teeth in a varnish form using a brush. Fluoride helps by making the tooth more resistant to the build-up of decay, causing plaque and sugars. It can also speed re-mineralization as well as disrupt acid erosion in teeth.

So don't wait; come in today and get ahead of tooth decay!

Sealants

A Proactive Treatment

If you're looking to protect your child's teeth from cavities, sealants may be the answer for teeth with deep grooves and pits, which are the areas most susceptible to decay.  Sealants act as a barrier and protect the enamel from plaque and acids.

Typically, children get sealants on their permanent molars as soon as these teeth fully come in. However, sealants are sometimes recommended for baby molars or other teeth with deep grooves. Sealants are recommended for children because they can protect the teeth during the cavity-prone years of ages 6 to 14. But anyone without decay or fillings in their molars can also benefit from sealants.

Athletic Mouthguards

Stay In The Game

Did you know that wearing a mouthguard while playing sports could be the difference between keeping all your teeth and losing them?

It's true! According to some estimates, 13-39% of all dental injuries occur while playing sports. And in fact, mouthguards are so effective at preventing injuries that they are now mandatory in American football. It is estimated that 200,000 injuries to the mouth and teeth have been prevented annually since mouthguards became mandatory.

Mouthguards are essential for protecting your teeth and mouth from injury.

Composite (White) Fillings

Colored Matched

It's essential to take care of your teeth. Decay can lead to pain or infection if left untreated. Composite fillings are a safe and effective way to restore teeth.

Composite fillings are made of a tooth-colored composite resin. This resin is strong and durable. If a filling is recommended, our Jenison MI dental team will gently remove the decayed part of the tooth and place a filling. This will help prevent further damage from happening.

Dental Crowns

It Is Like A Princess Crown or Superhero Helmet

Dental crowns aren't just for adults - they can also benefit kids! A Dental crown may be recommended for your child's teeth after considering many factors, including your child's caries risk, dental hygiene, cooperation, the length of time until the tooth falls out, and the size and location of the cavity. Dental crowns are recommended more frequently in conjunction with root canal treatment or general anesthesia because they generally last longer, are stronger, and have less risk of recurrent decay and needing retreatment than some fillings. Be sure to talk to Dr. Condit or Dr. Vollmar about all its benefits!

Extractions

Just a wiggle or Two

Dental extractions can be scary for children, but Dr. Condit and Dr. Vollmar will make the experience as comfortable as possible. With years of experience and a focus on pediatric dentistry, your child is in good hands. We use words like "wiggle" rather than "pull" and "sleepy juice" rather than "shot."

Our Staff will ensure your child is as comfortable as possible during the procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Condit and Dr. Vollmar will also discuss other options to help ease your child's anxiety.

Minimally Invasive Treatments

An Alternative to Fillings or Crowns

Does your son or daughter have cavities? No problem! Silver diamine fluoride can sometimes be used as a painless and safe alternative to fillings or crowns. SDF works by inhibiting the bacteria that cause cavities and remineralizing (or hardening) the tooth. It also helps reduce tooth sensitivity in some instances.

Our dental team will apply the liquid directly to the cavity using a small brush or floss. Sometimes we can even place a definitive restoration on the SDF-treated cavity using minimally invasive treatment techniques.

Sedation & Hospital Dentistry

Calm The Nerves

At Grand River Pediatric Dentistry, we work to establish trust and rapport with our patients and families. Our Jenison, MI, dental team needs to communicate directly with your child for us to get to know them and for them to become comfortable with us. Many children can cooperate reasonably for various dental procedures in the office using specific communication techniques. These can include a pre-appointment visit, "tell-show-do," where we explain our procedures to your child in an age-appropriate manner, positive reinforcement, and distraction with funny stories or songs.

Occasionally, some children cannot cooperate with dental treatment using these approaches. Dr. Vollmar and Dr. Condit may recommend other options for your son or daughter to facilitate a positive experience.

Sedation Dentistry

If your child is anxious about dental treatment, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) may be a good option. This mild sedation medication can help reduce anxiety, enhance communication and increase tolerance for longer appointments. Once inhaled, nitrous oxide induces a state of calm relaxation. It also can reduce sensitivity to pain. However, numbing medicine is still often needed. Nitrous oxide has a very safe track record, regardless of age.

Following the procedure, your child will be on his or her way and able to return to school if needed.

Hospital Dentistry

In some cases, it may be best for your child to receive dental care while asleep to ensure a positive experience. This option is available for children of all ages, and our team will be with your child every step of the way, ensuring their safety and comfort. Should your child require dental care in a hospital setting, our team will provide all the information you need. A qualified anesthesia team will closely monitor your child, and will not feel any pain or fear during the procedure. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
